About this offering

**IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR YOU?** This course offering is designed for people who: - are likely a Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal (Master up to 12 metres), wanting to progress to being a Master who commands coastal trading of vessels under 24 metres in length in designated near offshore waters. The increased responsibility of the role includes co-ordinating the activities of crewmembers, and overseeing the safe operation of the vessel at sea, at anchor and in port. - are able to engage in self- directed study and prefer blended learning delivery, as it enables you to maintain employment as a commercial seafarer, whilst working towards achieving the qualification and subsequent licencing requirements as determined by AMSA. - seek employment in a wide range of water based operations, such as on harbour cruises; dolphin and whale watching tours; commercial fishing; ferry operations; marina berthing facilities and volunteer or professional water rescue organisations, amongst other career opportunities. Through work, study and life experience, ideally you will have: - good digital skills - good time management skills - medium level organisational skills, to take responsibility for following the timetable and managing your study schedule **SERVICES AND STUDY SUPPORT**

To be eligible for government subsidised training under the Smart and Skilled program, individuals must meet personal eligibility requirements including:
  • You must live or work in NSW
  • You must be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, Australian permanent humanitarian visa holder, or a New Zealand citizen. Temporary Visa Holders who are contracted NSW Apprentices / NSW Trainees may be eligible for government subsidised funding. Please contact your TAFE college/campus
  • You must be 15 years old or older
  • You must have left school
