About this offering

This qualification reflects the role of workers who provide therapeutic and program related support to allied health professionals. The worker is required to conduct therapeutic and program related activities under the guidance of an allied health professional. Supervision may be direct, indirect, or remote and must occur within organisation requirements. The worker is required to identify client circumstances that need additional input from the allied health professional. The worker may be engaged to work in a specialty area or work generically across the organisation in delivery of allied health assistance services. The worker, in conjunction with the allied health professional, may have responsibility for supervising other allied health assistance workers. To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency. A medical practice assistant may work under the supervision of a health care professional other than a medical practitioner, but this should only occur where: - the health care professional is in the same practice as the medical practitioner and - the medical practitioner has agreed to the other health care professional providing the supervision A registered nurse must accept or refuse responsibility for supervision of an activity of a medical practice assistant, according to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) Decision-making framework. An enrolled nurse cannot provide supervision. No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

To be eligible for government subsidised training under the Smart and Skilled program, individuals must meet personal eligibility requirements including:
  • You must live or work in NSW
  • You must be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, Australian permanent humanitarian visa holder, or a New Zealand citizen. Temporary Visa Holders who are contracted NSW Apprentices / NSW Trainees may be eligible for government subsidised funding. Please contact your TAFE college/campus
  • You must be 15 years old or older
  • You must have left school
